"The Little Voyager"

Hand-carved from an exceptionally rare piece of ancient Scottish elm burr, A Little Voyage in Time captures the quiet grace and timeless beauty of one of the ocean’s most enduring creatures.

Although intimate in scale, measuring just 20 cm x 18 cm, every detail has been meticulously sculpted by hand using, rotary tools, a Dremel and traditional palm chisels. The extraordinary burr grain, formed through decades of natural growth, creates intricate patterns that echo the unique markings of a sea turtle’s shell, ensuring no two sculptures can ever be replicated.

The turtle glides effortlessly above its natural elm burr base, evoking the rugged beauty of a coral reef and creating the illusion of movement through the sea. Sourced from the historic Drovers’ Road in the Ochil Hills of Perthshire, the timber comes from a magnificent elm that stood for generations before becoming one of the final casualties of Dutch elm disease. Rather than allowing this remarkable tree to decay, Cameron transformed it into a lasting work of art, giving new life to a precious part of Scotland’s natural heritage.

Each sculpture is carefully finished with nourishing mineral oil and multiple coats of hand-applied shellac, producing a deep, luminous sheen while offering lasting protection for the timber.

A Little Voyage in Time is more than a sculpture—it is a celebration of craftsmanship, conservation and the enduring beauty of nature. Designed as a statement piece and future heirloom, it is intended to be admired, cherished and passed down through generations.
